Frequently asked questions
- How does it handle daylight saving time?
- Uses the browser’s native Intl API which knows the IANA time zone database. DST transitions are handled automatically - if your meeting falls during a DST switch, the tool shows the correct local time on each side.
- Why use IANA names like America/New_York?
- IANA names are unambiguous and survive policy changes. "EST" is ambiguous (US Eastern? Australia Eastern?). America/New_York automatically follows New York’s current and historical DST rules.
- Can I convert past or future dates?
- Yes. Pick any date in the date input. Useful for scheduling international meetings or checking what time an event aired in your zone.
- How accurate is it?
- As accurate as your browser’s time zone database. Modern browsers update tzdata regularly. For dates in the distant past (pre-1970) or far future, accuracy may degrade.
- What time zones can I add?
- Currently a curated list of 18 popular zones. To convert to a non-listed zone, the source dropdown will show your local zone if it’s detected automatically.
