Frequently asked questions
- How does this work?
- Unicode includes mathematical alphanumeric symbols (𝐀-𝐳, 𝓐-𝔃, etc.) originally meant for math notation. They’re not really fonts - they’re separate characters that happen to look like styled letters.
- Will it work on Instagram and TikTok?
- Yes. Unicode characters work anywhere text is supported - Instagram bio, TikTok captions, Twitter, Discord, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc. Some platforms strip certain styles.
- Is it accessible?
- No. Screen readers struggle with mathematical alphanumeric symbols and may skip them entirely or read them weirdly. Use sparingly and never for important information.
- Why are some letters missing or different?
- Unicode’s math alphabet has historical gaps - for example, the italic alphabet skips certain letters that were already encoded elsewhere. The tool falls back gracefully when a glyph is missing.
- Can I use these for SEO or domain names?
- No. Search engines and domain registries treat them as different characters from regular ASCII. Using them in URLs or page titles will hurt searchability.
