Frequently asked questions
- How many frames can a GIF have?
- No fixed limit. Practical advice: keep under 100 frames for reasonable file size (most viral GIFs have 20-50 frames).
- Can I control frame delay?
- Yes. The global delay defaults to 200 ms (5 FPS) with slow, normal, and fast presets at 500, 200, and 80 ms, and any single frame can be given its own delay from 20 to 5000 ms.
- Can I make a GIF from video?
- Not directly here - use our video-to-gif workflow: extract frames first, then combine.
- What is the max file size?
- GIF files larger than 5MB are often rejected by social platforms. Keep dimensions and frame count low for sharing.
- Why do colors look banded?
- A GIF frame holds at most 256 colors. The quality slider maps from 16 colors at the low end to 256 at the high end, so photos and gradients band unless you raise it.
- What output size and loop options are there?
- Output width is adjustable from 50 to 1200 pixels and the height follows the aspect ratio of the first frame. Playback can loop forever or a fixed number of times from 1 to 999.
