How to calculate a tip
Enter the bill amount and the tip percentage, and the calculator shows the tip and the new total. To split the check, set the number of people and it divides the total evenly.
The tip is simply the bill multiplied by the percentage: a 18% tip on a $50 bill is $9, for a $59 total. Split three ways, that is about $19.67 each.
How much should you tip?
Tipping customs vary by country. In the United States, 15-20% is standard for restaurant service, with 20% common for good service. In much of Europe a service charge is often included and a small round-up is enough; in some countries tipping is not expected at all.
When in doubt, check whether "service" or a gratuity is already on the bill so you do not tip twice.
