A background-color plus one radial-gradient layer per colour stop, each written as radial-gradient(at x% y%, colour 0px, transparent 50%) and stacked in background-image.
Why does the first colour behave differently?
The first stop also becomes the background-color underneath the layers, so it fills the areas the radial gradients fade out of. Reorder the stops to change which colour dominates the edges.
