Frequently asked questions

What is EXIF data?
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in photos. It can include camera model, lens, aperture/shutter/ISO, date, and - most importantly for privacy - GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken.
Why should I remove EXIF before sharing?
Photos from phones often include precise GPS coordinates. Sharing them on social media or forums can reveal your home address, workplace, or travel patterns without you realizing.
Does the remove function also strip orientation?
Yes. Re-encoding via canvas bakes in the current orientation and strips all metadata including rotation, GPS, and camera info.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. Reading EXIF and removing it both happen entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Which metadata blocks are read?
TIFF and EXIF tags, GPS, IPTC, and XMP, grouped on screen into GPS, camera, date, and other. ICC colour profiles are skipped.
What do I get from Download clean?
A JPEG re-encoded at 95% quality with the suffix -no-exif. Because the canvas output is always JPEG, a PNG loses its transparency and a lossless original is recompressed.
