Frequently asked questions
- Order of transforms?
- Applied right-to-left. translate() rotate() first rotates then translates the rotated coordinate system.
- What is transform-origin?
- Sets the pivot point for rotations and scaling. Default is 50% 50% (center).
- Why smoother than top/left?
- Browsers can offload transform and opacity to the GPU, avoiding layout and paint work.
- What ranges do the controls cover?
- Translate -150 to 150 px on each axis, rotate -360 to 360 degrees, scale 0 to 3 per axis, skew -90 to 90 degrees, and a transform-origin anywhere from 0% to 100% on both axes.
- In what order are the functions written?
- Always translate, then rotate, then scale, then skew. Since the browser applies them right to left, the skew happens first and the translate last; edit the copied value if you need a different order.
