Frequently asked questions
- Is my image uploaded?
- No. Processed entirely in your browser with canvas. Nothing leaves your device.
- Why stretched?
- Monospace characters are twice as tall as wide. Tool compensates by halving row count.
- What is Invert?
- Reverses the brightness ramp so dark areas become light characters. Useful for dark backgrounds.
- How wide can the output be?
- 40 to 120 characters. The row count is derived from the image aspect ratio and halved, because a monospace character is about twice as tall as it is wide.
- Which characters are used?
- A ten-step ramp from space through .:-=+*#%@, picked by perceived brightness with the standard luminance weighting. Invert reverses the ramp for light-on-dark terminals.
